About the maker

Hi, I am Marlise. I started Tamboti & Twine at my kitchen table in 2019 with one pot of soap and a very patient family.

Cream stoneware cups, bowls and jugs on a studio shelf

A studio full of small experiments

What began as soap for friends grew into a market stall at the Saturday market, then a full studio in Somerset West. Today we make soap and candles in the front room, throw ceramics at the back, and knot macramé on the stoep when the sun is out.

I work with two local women who weave and knot the baskets and wall hangings, and with a printmaker in Stellenbosch who pulls the botanical and cyanotype prints.

What we care about

Natural first

Plant oils, clays, rooibos, honey and essential oils. No palm oil and no synthetic dyes in our soaps.

Made slowly

Small batches, cured properly. Soap rests for four weeks before it ever leaves the studio.

Fair to makers

The women who weave and knot for us set their own prices, and we pay on delivery.
